Country Oaks is a community of approximately 28 custom homes nestled in an oak forest in the foothills of the Tehachapi mountains. The community was created in 1979 when Tract 3873 was subdivided into 29 lots. Each home is on at least two acres which allows space for the native flora and fauna to thrive.
The area is visited by a variety of animals including bobcats, mountain lions, raccoons, and the occasional bear. Resident birds include California quail, Western bluebirds, Red-headed woodpeckers, and several hawk species. In the spring, Pacific Chorus frogs (aka Pacific Tree frog) serenade nightly. Their calls are remarkably loud considering they are about the size of a half-dollar.
Late April and May bring an explosion of orange as native California poppies unfurl their blossoms.
Being located in the southwest end of the Tehachapi valley means the community is protected from much of the winds that power the famous wind turbines to the east.
The Country Oaks Homeowners Association was formed to help preserve the character of the area, to insure that properties are maintained in neat and orderly conditions, and to maintain the community streets and easements.
